We are grounded within Utrecht University’s International Development Studies (Department of Human Geography and Planning), and collaborates closely with the faculty of Geosciences, and the faculty of Law, Economics and Governance, and hosts an international platform of experts (all PhD alumni), currently working on SDG-related topics, and who are willing to share their knowledge and experience.
In addition to facilitating ‘real time impact research’ in different localities, we are the host of various learning communities covering more than a dozen countries across Africa, Latin America, and Asia, working on topics such as inclusive business and food security; forestry and biodiversity; land governance for inclusive and sustainable development; housing and international migration.
We have direct working relationships with colleagues in Uganda, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Kenya; Bolivia, Brazil, and Colombia; India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and the Philippines. We have experience in carrying out assignments for international and governmental organizations (e.g. CIFOR, RVO), NGOs (HomePlan, Wilde Ganzen, Kigezi Mountains Coffee, MVO), and business organizations (Royal van Zanten, SoilCares, Vossen Laboratories).
The Board oversees the general administration and operations of the foundation. Their expertise in advising on initiatives, accounting, management and strategic issues strengthens the foundation. The Board meets multiple times a year with the Shared Value team. The Board consists of a chair, a secretary and a treasurer.

Jofelle is a PhD candidate at the Cultural Anthropology and Development Studies at Radboud University. She has worked on other research projects on irregular migrants and South-South migration. Within the Horizon 2020 Welcoming Spaces project, she has done research about Ukrainian refugees in the Netherlands particularly those who have receded in rural communities and their peripheries. Her research hopes to contribute to the growing literature on the effects and contribution of migrants outside the cities, as well as lessons learned from the arrival of Ukrainians in their host countries. Also trained as a journalist, she has been investigating media representations of different groups of migrants and reporting about issues of Asian migrants in Europe. She is enthusiastic about how researchers and academics can engage with the media and vice versa for a better public understanding of various societal issues

Agroforestry | Smallholder Agriculture | Forest Ecosystems | Rural Development
Ari Susanti is a lecturer at the University of Gadjah Mada and also works as a consultant in Indonesia.
She is involved in projects that actively promote oil palm agroforestry within the social forestry programme in Indonesia. This approach is part of the trajectories in solving tenure-related conflict in the designated forest areas which are disturbed by monoculture oil palm plantations managed by smallholder farmers. This is not only a socio-technical but also an institution and policy approach to restoring the structure and functions of forest ecosystems. She has been intensively working with smallholder farmers in the rural areas of Indonesia, village leaders, local governments (regency and province levels), and central government (i.e. Ministry of Environmental and Forestry and National Peatland Restoration Agency BRG).
Our partners and experts are currently working on SDG-related topics, and who are willing to share their knowledge and experience.

Shared Value Foundation (SVF) works to visualize and optimize the social impact of development projects and investments by focusing on the direct and indirect impacts on affected communities, and looking at the intended and unintended consequences both within the project area and beyond. Taking the local situation and affected communities as our point of departure, our aim is to help organizations and businesses to optimize social impact in line with people’s aspirations and without crossing socio-ecological boundaries.
In addition to facilitating research and creating opportunities for young graduates to become involved, we organize tailor-made masterclasses and summer schools for businesses and organizations; and play a role as a broker in supporting professional organizations in carrying out field research (student teams supervised by Utrecht University).
More concretely, SVF will play a broader role in:
Creating a dynamic community that links students, alumni, experts, and professionals from different parts of the world and enhances networking and collaboration, with the IDS and Utrecht University as a hub for this connection.
Facilitating impact and SDG-related field work – with the involvement of students/experts from our international network. (Involvement of IDS-Students in carrying out SDG-related fieldwork, co-supervised by UU).
Tailor-made master classes and summer schools for Professionals (certificated by SVF-UU). There are also possibilities for a coaching trajectory (1 year), in combination with fieldwork training – also in combination with the IDS master-programme.
Seminars, round tables, and conferences (on demand), bringing in expertise from our network and beyond.
Socializing the research: Actively promoting knowledge about social impact and spreading research findings to a wider audience. Our website will be used to give a voice to communities in relation to research outcomes, and will offer space to IDS students to disseminate results, publish blogs and policy briefs as well as create job and internship opportunities.
